3D Reconstruction of Abdominal Organs from 2D Slices

چکیده
For medical diagnosis, visualization, and model-based therapy planning three-dimensional geometric reconstructions of individual anatomical structures are often indispensable. Since internal anatomical structures cannot be measured optically or mechanically in vivo, three-dimensional reconstruction of 2D image slices remains the method of choice. This calls for an effective volumetric image reconstruction method to find the correspondence among a sequence of 2D images and recover the 3D coherence that is lost in the sampling process. In this work, we reconstruct a 3D volumetric model of abdominal organs from 2D slices. A two step process is used to accomplish this (i) Segmentation of organ (ii) 3D volume reconstruction. Segmentation is done using seeded region growing. 3-D reconstruction is done with the help of a fast volume render application which uses OpenGL surfaces developed using MATLAB. 3D reconstruction helps in better quantitative evaluation on 3-D physical peculiarities of abdominal organs which can be very useful for better treatment planning.

Introduction 3D reconstruction of an object from its 2D cross-sections (slices) has many applications in different fields of sciences such as medical physics and biomedical engineering. In order to perform 3D reconstruction, at first, desired boundaries at each slice are detected and then using a correspondence between points of successive slices surface of desired object is reconstructed. Mate...

متن کاملA Genetic Algorithm based Optimization Method in 3D Solid Reconstruction from 2D Multi-View Engineering Drawings
There are mainly two categories for a 3D reconstruction from 2D drawings: B-Rep and CSG that both these methods have serious weaknesses despite being useful. B-Rep method which has been older and have wider function range is problematic because of high volume of calculations and vagueness in answers and CSG method has problem in terms of very limited range of volumes and drawings that it can an...
